The kidnappers make a point of generating as much publicity as possible, which leads to many surprising twists in the usual interplay between the kidnappers, the family, the board of Shell, the police and the media. The world looks on as the drama unfolds, wondering whether the end will justify these drastic means. |

Dennis Heijn (1963) previously wrote It Takes Speed to Dodge Trees; Acting Differently by Looking at Things Differently (2014). In this book he shares the experiences of his international career with Heineken. This was followed by The Fearless Monkey, A Creative Guide to Leadership in a Paradoxical World (2018), an English book on leadership and life in general. The publication of his debut received great press interest and the author offers an interesting profile and network of international journalists, authors, climate activists, and opinion leaders who will support the promotion of the book internationally. For Against the Flow Dennis was inspired by his own critical attitude towards international business, his fascination with the fact that even the best intentions can have bad outcomes, and the kidnapping and murder of his own father, over 35 years ago. Dennis Heijn is married and the father of seven children. He will be actively promoting translated editions of his book, is fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish, and will get by in French and German. |

“The big question how far you can go to fight injustice and climate crisis isn’t answered by Dennis Heijn—that you will have to do for yourself—but he did write a thrilling and all too realistic book about it. Recommended!” — Dolf Jansen, comedian and radio journalist “Read it in one go. In this hauntingly realistic ‘climate-thriller’ Dennis Heijn cleverly combines his personal dramatic history with an ominous future.” — Jeroen Smit, bestselling author on ABN-AMRO Bank, Unilever, and Ahold “A very good and thrilling page-turner that makes us think about issues that affect us all. Making the right choices seems to be the theme—how different would the world be if Shell had listened to itself? Dennis Heijn challenges the reader and once in his trap there is no escape. I read the book with pleasure and a pain in my chest.” — Harry Starren, author, professor, and director of Ithaca International “A thrilling, topical, and fascinating theme. Dennis Heijn writes with the experience of the kidnapping of his father. The twists and turns in the book are cleverly written and create a enthralling and surprising ending. My compliments!” — Arno Koek, book seller “Dennis Heijn has the gift to grab the reader by the throat and take them along for a ride. I just had to finish reading the book before my journey home. It is such a great topic and so frustrating to read how large corporations function. I really enjoyed reading the book and it deserves a large audience.” — Inez van Oord, founder of Happinez Magazine “Read the book by Dennis Heijn! Once I started reading it had me hooked and didn’t let me go. It is thrilling and confrontational.” — Marije van den Berg, author “The book is sublime, I read it in one go.” — Paul van Liempt, podcaster for Change Inc. “I was impressed by the story. Touching at times, well structured, thrilling, and it regularly makes you think. The way the author has incorporated the kidnapping of his father as a background story for the argumentations in the police investigation is remarkable and works well.” — Paul van Tongeren, former Philosopher Laureate Reader’s reviews: “I have been working in the oil industry for over twenty years and I have read the book in one sitting. How you describe the family after the kidnapping hit me like a hammer. We have to make a transition in the oil industry.” “I haven’t been enthralled by a book like this since Dan Brown’s The Da Vince Code. It is exactly the kind of book you want to read in one sitting because you just have to know how it ends. It is not just a thrilling reading experience but also a philosophical journey that stays with you long after having read the final page.” — Hebban reader’s review ***** “Stopping reader becomes increasingly harder to do. I had planned to read the book on my vacation but that is no longer possible.” — Hebban reader’s review ***** “Wonderfully written, very topical, makes you think! How far can you go in a fight for a good cause?” — Goodreads ***** “The current events and urgency of the climate discussion make the theme extra relevant and tangible. The completely surprising plot twist makes it hard to put this book down.” — bol.com ***** “Reading this book took my breath away. Everyone should read it.” “Surprising twists and a topical theme, fascinating up to the (surprising) ending.” — Goodreads ***** “I am on vacation in Rome and enjoy the city but after the tour and lunch I had to return to the hotel. I need to finish reading Against the Flow!” “I understood that the film rights have already been sold, I think this could be a thrilling movie.” — Hebban reader’s review ***** “Recommended for anyone who likes a thrilling showdown.” — bol.com ***** “I read the book in a few days. Thrilling and makes you think about a topical theme.” — Goodreads ***** “A highly realistic scenario in which Shell is being held accountable by climate activists. Highly recommended!” — Hebban reader’s review ***** “Every CEO and manager should read Against the Flow to investigate the moral and ethical dilemmas of their actions.” “What is right and what is wrong? What is acceptable and what is not? The book is thrilling and a great read.” — bol. com ***** |
